‘Please don’t kill me.’ I stared into
the hollow space and forcefully smacked the sides of my head with my hands. My
scalps did not feel any pain as my fingers deliberately scratched into them and
pulled out many, many strands of red hair. Red. My hair colour was black.
I’m suffocating. The room looks more
desolate than ever. There’s no one else in this room but me. And it. Why is the
room green? Had they covered the fluorescent with this eerie shade? GET ME OUT
OF HERE! I smashed into the door and perched my head onto the small window. All
I could see was a wall. And from different angles, I could catch a glimpse of the
sidewalk. A sidewalk of pale blue.
‘It’s no use.’ I heard a whisper. No
use? I have to do all I can, to live, to survive; to get away from you. Hush. A
gush of wind blew into my neck. I turned around. Its face was an inch away
which made me stumbled backwards into the door. My spine crashed against the
metal frame which made me groan.
It neared itself. I drew a quick breath
and shut my eyes tight. I felt a strong pull at my right carpals. My body felt
heavy as the air seemed to press against me. My feet lifted from the ground and
my sternum hit hard on the interior on the other side of the room as I felt the
grasp on my hand loosen. I moaned with droplets of tears forcing out of my eye
sockets.
‘Leave me alone!’ I screamed at the
creature; my eyes wide open this time. Its dark figure and ugly mask made me
queasy. A man neared the door with a tray of what seemed like food. I screamed
frantically for help from the inner section of the room as the monster was
standing in between me and the man outside the room.
‘Save me! Get me out of here!’ I cried
out to the shadow behind the door. The being which accompanied my solitary
bashed my head into the floor. ‘Keep it down’ it coolly said. Then it dragged
me by the ankles to one corner of the room. I can feel my almost open skull
leaving a bloody trail behind.
The green of the light struck my retinas
badly and I was intolerably irritated. I threw up on the ground. I lifted
myself up by force. Gravity had a strong pull on me but I was determined. I
couldn’t take it anymore! I ran into the opposite wall; head first. Then I
pushed myself away from the wall and raced into another corner of the room. I
punched my cheek as the sting in my eyes and headache at the back of my head punished
me from the inside out; hoping the punch would make me numb to the pain.
The man outside had withdrawn. I have no
hope of escaping anymore. My sight was blurry. The creature remained but silent
this time. ‘What are you looking at?’ I shouted at it. I got up from the ground
and launched myself toward it. I missed it – I don’t know how but I did and
propelled into the metal door, my body sliding against its cold surface in
pain. My stomach lay flat on the gory floor beneath at last.
I lifted my head. Alas, the creature was
gone. My head started its way back to the floor by a driven desire. As my pinna
kissed the damp base, my eyelids started to cover my pupils. Everything was in
darkness. I could hardly breathe. The impact on my sternum had seemingly broken
one of my ribs and punctured either of my lungs. And there I lay near the door
of my asylum.
Peace came over me. And I thought I saw
a light –
