For a friend,
That sticks closer than a brother.
Without knowing,
That the means to this end,
Was beside me undercover.
My friend,
Had told me I wasn't just bones,
Found me when I was gone,
Told me love when I was alone,
Healed my hurts when I was torn,
Picked me up when I was down,
Cheered me on until I won,
Gave me truth when I had doubts,
Corrected me when I was wrong,
Took my hand when I was lost,
Opened my eyes to hurting souls,
To love the wretched, warm the cold,
Promised to guide me till I'm old,
Even after we meet on streets of gold.
I've been looking for my friend,
In all the wrong places,
When here in my heart,
He was always at hand,
Whilst sitting beside the Father in heaven.
