for taking me to work:

I remember before school started

you would bring me to the restaurant next door

and chat with Aunty Melinda or another friend

while I eat char siew pau watching the Cantonese TV

I remember taking naps after school

using three of the office chairs

and my fingernails turning purple

from the over-cool of the airconds

for sending me to and fro school every day:

I remember walking from the car park

to kindergarten

when the sun is hot and shining

and going to daycare after

waiting for you to pick us up

I remember coming home in the afternoon

with chicken rice or mixed rice packed

and eating in the car

to reach home safely and relax

while you go back to work

I remember sharing rojak with you

while waiting for his school time to be over

having conversations in the car

somehow the topics never end

I remember talking in the car

until I reached the BRT

we had to brave through jams

or wake up really early

for preparing my meals:

I remember your cooking

soy sauce chicken

steamed salted chicken

oyster sauce soy sauce white pepper chicken

pak choy, yau mak, carrot tomato

ABC soup

lo wong gua soup

lotus root peanut soup

and the list goes on

I remember even when I was working

you would reheat food for me

to bring as lunch if I requested

or boil or fry eggs for me

for breakfast

You have given your life for me
